Leeds United are now trying to land a player who they tried to sign a while ago. For Daniel Farke, it could be the difference between promotion and not this season.
Leeds United look good to challenge for the title this season, currently sitting in 1st place of the Championship table despite a frustrating 0-0 draw against Burnley last tome out.
And after weeks of transfer rumours and links, Daniel Farke finally looks set to get his first January signing over the line in Matt Targett. It’s reported that Leeds are set to sign Targett from Newcastle United in a move that will add depth and experience to the Whites’ backline.
But additions further up the pitch may be more necessary. Several attackers have been linked with moves to Elland Road but most have either seen their links go cold or moved elsewhere.
Now though, Leeds could turn their attentions to a player who’s been linked quite heavily in the past, but who’ve never made the move to West Yorkshire.

Leeds United see Cameron Archer loan bid rejected by Southampton
Cameron Archer is someone who Leeds United fans may have heard of in the past. He’s was linked with a move to Elland Road in the summer of 2023, but Sheffield United beat Leeds to the signing.
Now at Southampton, the 23-year-old has scored just twice in 21 Premier League games for the Saints this season. TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed that Leeds have now seen an approach to sign the ex-Aston Villa man on loan rejected by Southampton.
Fellow journalist Ben Jacobs has weighed in too, saying that Southampton are reluctant to let Archer go before deadline day, but that Leeds are definitely interested.
What Cameron Archer said after joining Sheffield United over Leeds United
Archer secured himself a Premier League loan move with Sheffield United last season, eventually scoring four times in 29 top flight outings for the Blades who were eventually relegated.
But the winger did enough to secure himself another Premier League spot for this 2024/25 season, joining Southampton in a deal worth a reported £15million.
Speaking in 2023, Archer said about his move to Sheffield United: “Premier League football, passionate fans, a big club. You just have that feeling when a club is interested, I had that feeling about Sheffield United.”
Still a top flight player, and playing quite regularly for Southampton, it seems like he might be unwilling to drop down to the Championship with Leeds, if playing Premier League football remains Archer’s preference.
And with Southampton keen to keep him amid their struggles, a Leeds move for Archer certainly seems unlikely as things stand. But there’s interest and as ever in the transfer market, anything could happen.
