Sheffield United are set to beat Leeds United to the signing of Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer.
That is according to Alan Nixon, who provided the update on his patreon, stating that an £18 million deal is now close to completion.
It is said that Sheffield United have agreed a transfer that will see Archer return to Villa for a slightly higher fee if the Blades are relegated from the Premier League.

Villa have always insisted that to sell Archer a buy-back clause will need to be inserted into a deal and it appears as though Sheffield United have agreed to those demands.
Leeds will now be forced to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a striker as the transfer window enters its final stages.
Sheffield United to beat Leeds to Archer signing
This will be the second player Sheffield United have beaten Leeds to the signing of this summer.
Leeds were also heavily keen on Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer but were pipped to his signature by Paul Heckingbottom earlier this month.
Ultimately the money and pull of Premier League football were always likely to hand them an advantage over Leeds in the race for signings such as these.
As per Nixon, Leeds have now made a bid for Swansea City striker Joel Piroe as they look to move onto alternative targets.
Again, he would represent a significant coup for Leeds at this level based on his track record in South Wales.
