The January transfer window has already seen a few big moves and a few surprises. One of the big stories is a player on the books at Liverpool is currently earning plenty of Premier League interest.
Typically, Leeds United are yet to do anything. Joe Gelhardt is closing in on a loan move to Hull City but that is about it, while Patrick Bamford has interest from Blackburn and other players could leave Leeds.
In terms of new signings, a few players have been linked with Leeds. The Whites are supposedly trying hard to sign Tottenham’s Ben Davies, while Andrew Omobamidele was left out of Forest’s FA Cup squad.
But one player that is attracting plenty of interest in the January transfer window is currently on the books at Liverpool. That is despite Leeds making an offer to sign him ahead of Liverpool from Celtic in 2022.
Leeds United made a better offer than Liverpool for Ben Doak
Speed machine Ben Doak is currently at Middlesbrough on loan. Having played twice at senior level for Celtic, Leeds and Liverpool wanted to sign six-time Scotland star Doak and the winger opted for Anfield.
That is despite Leeds making a better offer than Liverpool to land Doak. Since then, he has clocked up 10 senior outings for Liverpool and last summer, Michael Carrick lured the Scottish ace to Middlesbrough.
He has starred this season, having a hand in eight goals in his 21 appearances for Middlesbrough. Two goals, the winger has laid on six assists for Carrick’s men and that has attracted Premier League interest.
Now, Ben Doak could be one of January’s biggest deals at £30m
Initial bids were less than £20m for Doak from Palace and Ipswich according to The Guardian, while The Sun now say Bournemouth are leading the charge to sign Doak who Jurgen Klopp described as “special”.
The latest report states that Liverpool want a whopping £30m for Doak to leave. Things could have been different had he joined Leeds, but there is a serious player in the tenacious star as he shines on Teesside.
Leeds have often signed players young that have gone on to shine, something Victor Orta was good at. The likes of Crysencio Summerville, Pascal Struijk and more – and Doak could have been another example.
