Former Leeds United hero Patrick Bamford’s future looks set to be resolved as he closes in on a sensational move to La Liga.

After joining Leeds in 2018, Patrick Bamford scored 56 goals in 192 appearances for the club, including 17 in the brilliant 2020/21 Premier League season under Marcelo Bielsa.

However, Bamford fell down the pecking order under Daniel Farke and was eventually released by Leeds following their return to the top flight.

Now, reports in Spain suggest that the Leeds legend could complete a sensational switch to La Liga, ending his wait for a new club.

Patrick Bamford closing in on La Liga switch

According to a report in Diario AS, Bamford is closing in on a move to Spanish side Getafe on a free transfer.

Bamford has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks, including a potential move to Celtic or the MLS. However, he remains unattached at the time of writing.

But that looks set to change, as the report states: “English striker Patrick Bamford is very close to becoming a new Getafe player. The forward is free and could join Jose Bordalás’s team.

“The striker arrives after a difficult period, following a few years of good form that even led to his debut for England.”

Getafe currently sit eighth in the La Liga table, having won three of their opening five fixtures. However, they lost former Leeds target Christantus Uche on deadline day, leaving them in need of another forward.

Former Leeds United hero will join a former rival at Getafe

Bamford looks set to bolster the former Leeds contingent in La Liga, with Largie Ramazani joining Valencia on loan, Mateo Joseph struggling to make an impact with Mallorca, and Manor Solomon moving to Villarreal.

However, Bamford will join a former opponent if he does join Getafe, after Hull City man Abu Kamara joined the club on a season-long loan in the transfer window.

Leeds fans will be familiar with Kamara, as he grabbed two goals for the Tigers last season in the dramatic 3-3 draw between the clubs. Now, he looks set to line up alongside Bamford in the blue of Getafe.
