Leeds United fans have been left delighted as the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson has all but confirmed by the club.

It looks set to be a positive week in the summer transfer window for Leeds United and their fourth signing of the summer is all but confirmed.

Daniel Farke is looking to add height, strength, experience and solidity to his squad following the signings of Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Lukas Nmecha.

Now he has seemingly signed another defender in the shape of Gabriel Gudmundsson, who comes in as an immediate replacement for the departed Junior Firpo.

Though the deal hasn’t technically been confirmed or announced just yet, fans believe it’s now set in stone.

Leeds’ official X, formerly Twitter, account sent fans into a frenzy on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 8, by posting a seemingly innocuous image of Joe Rodon at Thorp Arch during pre-season training.

Leeds players returned from their summer holidays on July 7 and have been getting put through their paces, with the caption of the image reading: “What time is the bleep test?”‘, accompanied by a smiling emoji.

However, eagle-eyed supporters quickly spotted that the figure standing next to Rondon, with his face turned away from the camera, looks suspiciously like Gudmundsson.

“Wait, isn’t that Gudmundsson?” one fan asked, while another simply commanded: “Just announce him.”

“Is that just a soft launch of our new signing?” another enquired, accompanied with a looking eyes emoji.

A much more excited supporter wrote: “OI THATS GUDMUNDSSON.”

The rest of the replies were flooded with fans excited to see that Gudmundsson’s arrival is now all but certain.

Who will Leeds United sign after Gabriel Gudmundsson?

The arrival of Gudmundsson early in the week comes as a welcome reprieve after a frustrating previous week for the club.

Despite making positive moves already in the window, headlines were dominated last week by Sunderland beating Leeds to Habib Diarra and Noah Sidiki.

The Black Cats have shown interest in other Leeds targets, too, with some fans growing anxious over missing out on talented players.

However, the signing of Firpo’s desperately needed replacement will help soften that blow and there could be more good news yet.

It’s been reported that Leeds are closing in on signing Sean Longstaff for £12m from Newcastle United, with the deal expected to be concluded by the end of the week.
