Gabriel Gudmundsson is a professional footballer who Leeds United signed in the summer of 2025.

Leeds United are working hard to improve their squad for the 2025-26 Premier League season and have brought in Gabriel Gudmundsson as their fourth signing.

After already adding Jaka Bijol, Sebastian Bornauw and Lukas Nmecha to the squad, Daniel Farke recruited yet more top-level experience and solidity in Gudmundsson.

The Swede was recruited as a direct replacement for the departed Junior Firpo, who left Leeds when his contract expired.

Who is Gabriel Gudmundsson?

Gabriel Johan Gudmundsson is a professional footballer who plays for Ligue 1 side Lille.

He is predominantly a left-back but is capable of playing across the defence and even further forward, making him a versatile asset who would come in handy in the Premier League.

Gudmundsson, the son of former Blackburn Rovers star Niklas Gudmundsson, began his career in his native Sweden with Halmstads BK before moving to the Netherlands to sign for Groningen.

After two years, he was picked up by French side Lille in 2021, where he has marshalled the left flank ever since.

He has also played Champions League football against the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

Gudmundsson is a proactive and attacking full-back who loves to sprint forward, whether he is in possession or is looking for space.

Now, he is a Leeds player.

Gudmundsson emerged as a possible target in early June, though Leeds had at least five potential options to replace Firpo with.

In the end, Gudmundsson ticked a lot of positive boxes with his experience in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, his versatility on the pitch and the fact that he came at a bargain.

Leeds paid just £10m to secure Gudmundsson from Lille.
