Leeds United boost as Champions League club recall ‘outstanding’ star on Elland Road radar ahead of January

The January transfer window is creeping closer and Leeds United have just received a boost in their pursuit of an attacking star on the books with a Champions League club.

Daniel Farke has already tried to throw water on any potential incoming at Leeds in the January window but there are a few issues in the squad that could do with strengthening, such as no.10 or left-back.

Leeds fans have also been crying out for a striker. The Whites lack a nailed-on goalscorer despite Joel Piroe having a hand in 11 goals so far, scoring seven times. Mateo Joseph has only managed two goals.

Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt, could leave. Bamford is a target for both Wrexham and Genoa while Gelhardt wants to leave Leeds, given he has only been afforded two Championship appearances this term.

Striker on Leeds radar recalled by parent club ahead of January

Bamford could finally leave and Leeds have lined-up two replacements. Louie Barry and Dor Turgeman are being linked, though Leeds face competition from Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Burnley for Barry.

It comes after the “outstanding” Barry has scored 15 goals in 22 games and on Saturday, Barry laid on two assists for loan side Stockport. On Sunday, it was confirmed Barry is being recalled by Aston Villa.

The belief is that Villa are set to send Barry out on loan again to a Championship club instead of League One side Stockport. It comes after Stockport boss Dave Challinor said he was unsure about Barry’s future.

Why Leeds could really do with signing Louie Barry in January…

While Barry’s incredible form might only be at League One level, the former Barcelona talent is in some of the best form of any of England’s top-four leagues. Indeed, only Mo Salah and Borja Sainz have more.

Able to play out wide as well as up top, Barry would not only provide another option for Farke up top but a man in the form of his life out wide, too. If Leeds are to sign anyone, then it should really be Barry.
