Leeds United have been forced to abandon plans to sign a player in a key position in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The January transfer window has given Leeds Untied fans very little to get excited about, with the club yet to make a move for a new signing.
It looked likely to be a quiet month ahead of time, with manager Daniel Farke saying he was satisfied with his stacked squad that currently sits top of the Championship table.
However, with a return to the Premier League on the line and Sheffield United and Burnley breathing down their necks, some extra reinforcements certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Leeds did consider signing a centre-back in the window, with Nico Elvedi emerging as a target, but Pascal Struijk’s injury not being as bad as first feared lessened the need.
A new playmaker was also on the wish list given it’s the only position Leeds don’t have two natural options in and Brenden Aaronson is being over relied upon.
However, those plans have seemingly been abandoned ahead of transfer deadline day.

Leeds United no longer targeting a creative midfielder transfer
TeamTalk reports that a ‘new playmaker was on Farke’s wish list’ in January but those plans have now changed after Leeds missed out on two targets.
The Whites were favourites to sign Louie Barry at the start of the window but Aston Villa instead sent him to Hull City, with Unai Emery believing Ruben Selles was the right coach for his development.
Leeds also considered reuniting Farke with Emi Buendia, with the pair enjoying great success together at Norwich City.
However, the Argentine didn’t want to drop down to the Championship and instead joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan.
Now, having missed out on two targets, it’s reported Farke is happy with his options and won’t force Leeds into panic-buying a playmaker just to fill a hole in the squad. Though a late move hasn’t been ruled out if the ‘right target becomes available.’
Instead of a playmaker, attention has turned to improving Leeds’ arsenal up front and the club are pushing to sign ‘top priority’ Cameron Archer from Southampton before Monday’s deadline.

Leeds may move for Gustavo Hamer in summer transfer window
Though Leeds are not desperate to bring in another attacking midfielder at this stage, they will likely return to the position in the summer transfer window. Especially if they are promoted.
The report also mentions that as well as Buendia, Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer has been on Leeds’ ‘radar for some time.’
Leeds were strongly linked with Hamer last summer but he will only be a ‘viable’ signing in the summer and that’s if United go up and the Blades do not.
