Despite being a busy day in terms of rumours, Leeds United failed to secure any new signings on deadline day.

Leeds’ pursuit of a new forward was unsuccessful, with Adam Armstrong choosing to join West Brom instead.

Cameron Archer was also linked to Leeds but the striker would remain at Southampton despite rumours of him flying to Yorkshire.

Some fans may now think Leeds’ chance of signing a striker has come and gone, but the Whites could potentially dip into the free-agent market to bolster their forward options.

Leeds could sign free agent Maxi Gomez

With the window slamming shut, Daniel Farke’s only hope of signing a new striker lies solely with the free agent market.

One free agent in particular who may be of interest to Leeds is former Valencia and Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

The Uruguayan forward is currently without a club after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor in August 2024 and the Whites could be tempted into a short-term deal.

According to Ovacion, Gomez is keen to get back playing and wants to return to Europe – leaving the door open for a potential Championship move.

Gomez could be smart pickup for Farke’s side

Gomez’s number one aim is reportedly to get back on the radar of Uruguay boss Marcelo Bielsa, having not featured for his country since 2023.

The former Leeds boss is familiar with the talents of Gomez having picked the striker in one of his first squad selections as Uruguay manager.

Despite struggling last season at Cadiz, the 28-year-old has a proven track record of scoring goals in Spain with 52 La Liga goals to his name.

Strong, physical and a handful up top – the former Valencia could transition well to Championship football and could give Farke a different dimension going forward.

If Gomez can recreate the form he showed at Valencia and Celta Vigo, he could potentially have a huge impact on Leeds’ promotion hopes come May.
