Adam Armstrong won’t be joining Leeds United this window, but the Southampton striker could still yet find a new club in an extraordinary twist.

Despite the window slamming shut, the drama doesn’t stop.

Leeds have ended the window with no arrivals, as clubs around them have strengthened.

This will frustrate fans who were promised four signings at Leeds but this annoyance at zero incomings will only grow after a recent revelation.

Leeds target Armstrong was in high demand but he could end up playing against the Whites in a fantastic ending to deadline day.

Adam Armstrong looks set to join Leeds United’s rivals West Brom

Despite the window now slamming shut, it doesn’t mean deals still can’t come to fruition.

And now, Armstrong could end up leaving Southampton after all.

Armstrong rejected Sunderland, and Leeds seemingly made it clear no signings were happening this deadline day, but West Brom have been waiting in the shadows.

Journalist, John Percy, has confirmed that the Baggies are hoping to complete a ‘very late’ loan deal for the Saints striker as Whites fans could be left in bafflement come Tuesday morning.

The extraordinary deadline day saga of Leeds target Armstrong

Before today, Leeds fans wouldn’t have even fathomed a deal for Armstrong as no past links had been mooted.

Whether this deal gets over the line is another question, but it wouldn’t half be some coup from the Baggies.

Middlesbrough, Sunderland, and Leeds have all gone in for the striker and failed, and now Armstrong could haunt Leeds once again after last year’s play-off final.

Southampton fans wanted Armstrong to leave and now the Saints fans could get their wish as Tony Mowbray has perplexed every club involved in this late pursuit.
