With a move for Cameron Archer seemingly unlikely at this stage, Leeds United are said to have turned their attention to Archer’s Southampton teammate in Adam Armstrong.

Leeds saw a bid rejected for Cameron Archer, with The Whites still said to be interested in deal but Leeds are running out of time to convince Southampton. However, Leeds could still sign a Southampton player.

Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News this afternoon that Adam Armstrong is more likely to leave The Saints on deadline day. Middlesbrough and Sunderland are also looking at a deal to sign Armstrong.

But, reports emerged soon after Bailey’s information that said Leeds are also interested in Armstrong. The player that scored against Leeds in the play-off final last season, as Southampton beat Leeds at Wembley.

Southampton fans have their say on Adam Armstrong leaving

Last season, Armstrong was incredible. He had a hand in 37 goals for Southampton and was unlucky not to win the Championship’s Player of the Season award over Crysencio Summerville at Elland Road.

But this season, he has struggled to turn Championship quality into proven Premier League prowess and could now find himself leaving on deadline day with Leeds among the clubs showing interest in the star.

Southampton fans have responded to the news on X, with Armstrong likely to be on his way to a second-tier club before the 11pm deadline strikes. The majority of Southampton fans think an exit is best for all.

One Saints fans responded to the rumours by saying that Armstrong needs a “new start” in order to get his “career back on track”. He has played a whopping 232 times in the Championship, scoring 77 goals.

He has also laid on 33 assists in that time, a serious operator at this level. Another simply said “please” in response to the rumours that Armstrong could go, while another would sell him for a “bag of nuts”.

It would be a “good deal for us” according to another Southampton fan, who have clearly forgotten quite quickly just how good he was last term. One supporter said “it’s time to let him go to be honest”.

What Daniel Farke has said about Adam Armstrong previously

Leeds fans will remember his goal at Wembley well. Ethan Ampadu uncharacteristically made a mistake, stepping out of the backline to close down Will Smallbone and Armstrong took full advantage.

He drove into the space left behind by Ampadu and finished superbly past an outstretched Illan Meslier as Southampton won 1-0. Daniel Farke described Armstrong as “clinical” after the final at Wembley.

Leeds supporters may hate that Armstrong joins the club given his goal last season. But others may feel that such a prolific goalscorer in the Championship may now end up at Leeds, and score some goals.
