18-goal midfielder seeks move to Leeds United, three years after Jesse Marsch wanted him

It is the summer of 2022 and Jesse Marsch boasts a big transfer budget to splash after Leeds United opted to sell both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips to Barcelona and Man City, for a combined £100m.

The American gaffer and Victor Orta combined to bring in a heap of players that lacked any Premier League experience. Rasmus Kristensen, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson to name a few.

It failed, and by February, Marsch was sacked. Many had called for the American’s sacking before the Qatar World Cup in the winter. Marsch was saved by wins over Liverpool at Anfield, and Bournemouth.

But one player he did want that did have Premier League experience, was midfielder Josh Brownhill. Fast forward three years until now, and Brownhill has confirmed he is leaving Burnley on a free this summer.

Josh Brownhill’s stance on Leeds United move amid reports

Marsch wanted Brownhill after his performances for Burnley in the Premier League but actually, his best season may have come in 2024-25. Brownhill scored a whopping 18 goals as Burnley secured promotion.

Leeds are said to have an interest in Brownhill, but FourFourTwo’s Joe Donnohue now reports that the midfielder wants to join Leeds and admires their project. Whether Leeds are still keen, is currently unclear.

Since the links this summer with Leeds, Adam Underwood has secured summer deals for Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach to the tune of almost £35m. Leeds now boast five options in the middle of the park.

Brownhill has an offer on the table, but it is from Leicester City

Donnohue also reported in his new role with FourFourTwo that Leicester have made an offer to sign Brownhill on a free. But the chances of Brownhill wanting to stay in the Championship seems unlikely.

Having just helped Burnley gain promotion, Brownhill wants a Premier League move and after his 18-goal season, there will surely be interest. Donnohue also claims that Brownhill is open to moving abroad.

Brownhill though is keen on finally joining Leeds after years of being linked with The Whites. Leeds have signed midfielders, but if they view Brownhill as more of a no.10, then there could be a deal to be done.
