18-goal star who Daniel Farke has wanted for Leeds United announces he’s left his club as a free agent

Leeds United’s midfield search rumbles on. Specifically, Daniel Farke now wants to sign a number 10.

Leeds United have stacked up their midfield department well this month, with the double signing of Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach in deals from Newcastle United and Hoffenheim respectively.

And already, Daniel Farke says his midfield is almost complete, but he still needs a number 10, with Brenden Aaronson the only real option in that area.

So far this summer, there have been a handful of number 10s linked with the move to Leeds United. The list includes Emi Buendia, Gustavo Hamer, and James McAtee at Manchester City.

All three have been linked for several months now, and all three look set to leave their respective clubs this summer.

However, Leeds seem to be making little progress in a deal for all three, with reports that Hamer in particular isn’t keen on a move to Leeds United this summer.

Josh Brownhill announces sudden Burnley departure

One midfielder who was linked with a move to West Yorkshire throughout last season was Josh Brownhill. The former Bristol City man shone with Burnley, playing a key role in their eventual promotion to the Premier League with an incredible 18 goals and six assists from midfield.

In the end, only Joel Piroe scored more goals than the 29-year-old Warrington-born Brownhill. But Brownhill’s contract at Burnley expired at the end of June and there has been a lot of back and forth over whether he would re-join Scott Parker’s side ahead of next season.

Then at the start of this week, Brownhill posted on social media announcing that he’s left Burnley with a next chapter on the horizon. Brownhill posted this lengthy message with the caption, ‘Always a Claret’.

Burnley’s woes will come as good news for Leeds United

Burnley started the summer transfer window in a very strong fashion. After they achieved a 2nd place finish behind Leeds United, Parker’s side automatically signed a handful of loan players in permanent options to buy.

Since then, Burnley have signed the likes of Lucas Tchaouna in a big money move from Lazio, along with Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord. Though recently, former Leeds United transfer target James Trafford has sealed a return to Manchester City in what is a huge blow for Burnley just weeks outside the start of the new season, and now with Brownhill confirming his departure, it’s another blow for the Clarets.

But for Leeds United, Burnley’s suffering will come as good news. Next season, Burnley, along with Leeds and Sunderland, will no doubt be relegation rivals. The last six promoted teams have all come straight back down, and so Leeds will want to put as much space between themselves and the likes of Burnley and Sunderland as possible, and then look to draw other teams into the mix to give themselves a better chance of staying up.

And if Leeds can now go and sign Brownhill and put him in that number 10 position, or have him as at least one option in that area, it will bolster their survival chances even further.
