Leeds United are yet to make their first move in this January transfer window. There’s names linked, but it seems like Daniel Farke and co are biding their time, potentially ahead of a busy final week of the window.

We’re now two weeks into the January transfer window, and despite the fact that more than 20 players have been linked with Leeds United in the last several weeks, none are yet to make the move to Elland Road.

And it’s alarming for fans who are watching the likes of promotion rivals Sunderland sign Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma, whilst Sheffield United are being backed to make a £7million move for striker Tom Cannon.

More alarming is Leeds’ current form. They’ve drawn their opening two league fixtures of 2025 and have seen their lead at the top of the Championship table close to just a single point, with only three points between them and Sunderland in 4th.

New names keep on being linked despite the lack of activity. Now, a rather surprising but exciting name has been mentioned in Plymouth Argyle’s Bali Mumba.

Bali Mumba was wanted by Manchester City at 17, now he’s wanted by Leeds United

Mumba broke through at Sunderland. But the Black Cats cashed in relatively early, selling him to Daniel Farke’s Norwich City in 2020. The now 23-year-old was a very well-regarded prospect at Sunderland making his senior debut at 17.

He made his debut at the start of November in 2018, and just a few days after, he was being linked with Manchester City and Chelsea. The Sun claimed that the Premier League giants had scouts watching Mumba’s performances and that they were weighing up a £2.5million bid.

But Mumba would eventually leave Norwich for Plymouth Argyle. He spent the 2022/23 season on loan there, helping the club earn promotion before Plymouth paid £1million to sign the versatile wing-back.

Bali Mumba is an EFL League One POTY award winner

That 2022/23 season saw Mumba burst into life. He’d shown glimpses of real potential but his development stalled at Carrow Road. Plymouth Argyle though would turn Mumba from a central midfielder into a left wing-back, in a role which he’s since shone in.

Mumba helped Plymouth win the league title that season, as well as reaching the EFL Trophy final. He was also named the EFL League One Young Player of the Season, in the EFL League One Team of the Season, also scooping the EFL Young Player of the Month award for September 2022.

There’s no suggestions about how much Plymouth Argyle might charge for Mumba, who featured 25 times in the Championship this season with one assist. But Plymouth will surely want a healthy profit on the player they broke their transfer record to sign.

He remains under contract until 2027 and so Plymouth have no immediate pressure to cash in on the Englishman.
