‘Electric’ attacker an unused sub for second successive match after reports Leeds United want to sign him

Leeds United now have just under a week to get some transfer business done before their next match.

The Whites face another difficult looking away trip to Sheffield Wednesday and on the evidence of today’s attacking display, at least one will be needed by the time they kick off at Hillsborough.

Though there was significant improvement at the back, Leeds looked toothless in attack without Georginio Rutter for the first time in a league match for over a year.

Joel Piroe stood in for him in the number 10 position, and produced a very sub par performance. Leeds were able to muster just one shot on target.

Daniel Farke has again made it clear the four positions he still wants strengthening, two of which are in the attacking third of the field.

Leeds target Manuel Benson an unused sub

While movement has been frustratingly slow, Leeds appear to be considering a number of potential targets in attack.

Sunderland and former Leeds winger Jack Clarke became the latest to be linked today, while Burnley’s Manuel Benson and Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe have also been mentioned.

And despite the exit of Wilson Odobert from Burnley on Friday, Leeds target Benson was again left on the bench as an unused substitute in their 4-0 win over Cardiff City.

After such limited game time in the Premier League last season, the ‘electric‘ Benson did not get on the pitch at Luton Town on Monday either.

Burnley have scored four goals in both of those matches and so clearly aren’t missing Benson too much, which could be good news for Leeds.

Given Scott Parker’s reluctance to lose him so far, it will be interesting to see whether Leeds look to test Burnley’s resolve in the coming days.

Ben Jacobs update on Leeds target Benson

Journalist Ben Jacobs provided a new update on Leeds’ interest in Benson earlier today, very much confirming he is a target.

Jacobs says Farke sees Benson as someone who can add both goals and creativity to his side, and so he is a player under consideration.

He said: “Manuel Benson is still there as well. The Burnley winger on Leeds’ radar too. And Daniel Farke would like a little bit more creativity and somebody that can provide regular goal contributions.

“So Benson is another possibility. And if they want Benson, they’ll maybe find themselves up against Norwich as well, because if Jonathan Rowe goes, they will probably enter that race as well.”
