Daniel Farke admits £5m Leeds United player has struggled so far this season

Daniel Farke has delivered his verdict on Leeds United’s 0-0 draw away at West Bromwich Albion.

Despite the search for a first win of the season still ongoing, Leeds can take a handful of positives from the result after a nightmare last seven days.

Leeds had conceded six goals from their opening two matches but looked a lot more solid at the Hawthorns, restricting the home side to just one shot on target.

However, the problem was Leeds were pretty dreadful going the other way, with Pascal Struijk from set-pieces the only real threat in the final third.

Unfortunately, that is a result of the fact Leeds have lost their two best attacking players and failed to replace them, meaning the pressure is on the 49ers in the next 13 days after Farke’s public demand of what he wants.

Farke delivers verdict on Jayden Bogle’s start to life at Leeds

It has now been just shy of a month since Leeds last made a signing, which was Jayden Bogle’s £5 million arrival from Sheffield United.

On paper, there could be no arguments against signing Bogle from promotion rivals Sheffield United, though he has not found it easy so far.

Bogle conceded the penalty which almost led to a defeat against Portsmouth, and had a couple of shaky moments in today’s match at the Hawthorns.

One particular mistake that springs to mind is the square pass he made across his own box which caused some real confusion in Leeds’ defence.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke acknowledged that it has not been an easy start to life at Leeds for Bogle, but is pleased with the character he showed.

He said: “Could see this in the first half. Good going forward. Chose a back pass when he could have gone forward sometimes. Coming out of a difficult season with relegation.

“Not an easy start for him after being involved in two games. First taste of a difficult week with us. New player. Under the spotlight. Fought his way back.”

Bogle will prove to be a good signing for Leeds

There is no doubt Bogle hasn’t found it too easy since joining Leeds, but he has shown signs of what he can offer.

He created a couple of big chances against Portsmouth last weekend and after being booked early on today, improved defensively as the game went on.

Once Leeds find a more settled starting XI, Bogle is bound to benefit from that. What’s more, given how difficult a season he enjoyed at Sheffield United in 2023/24, it is going to take time for his confidence to be fully restored.
