Daniel Farke now wants to sign ‘electric’ winger to add more creativity at Leeds United

With Georginio Rutter all but gone, Leeds United have now lost the majority of their creativity from last season.

Rutter was the man effectively all of Leeds‘ attacks would go through and that was shown by his return of 16 assists, and the fact only Abdul Fatawu created more big chances than him in the Championship.

The Frenchman’s exit follows that of Crysencio Summerville’s earlier this month and now leaves Leeds in the market for two more attackers, of which need to be at a very high level.

Daniel Farke put the pressure on the 49ers in his press conference on Thursday, again publicly making it clear the positions he still wants reinforcements.

Though a new full-back and central midfielder are important, it is how Leeds replace Rutter and Summerville that will decide their season.

Leeds want Manuel Benson to add ‘creativity’

It remains to be seen what sort of attacking profiles Leeds look at signing in the next 13 days, but a left-footed right winger and proper number 10 feel the most logical.

The former would help provide the team with better balance if Wilfried Gnonto is going to continue on the left, while the latter speaks for itself after losing Rutter.

One player who has been linked in the last few days is Burnley’s Manuel Benson and journalist Ben Jacobs has provided another update.

Jacobs has told Give Me Sport Benson is someone who he is very much on the ‘radar’ as Farke sees him as someone who can provide both ‘creativity’ and goals.

He said: “Manuel Benson is still there as well. The Burnley winger on Leeds’ radar too. And Daniel Farke would like a little bit more creativity and somebody that can provide regular goal contributions.

“So Benson is another possibility. And if they want Benson, they’ll maybe find themselves up against Norwich as well, because if Jonathan Rowe goes, they will probably enter that race as well.”

Leeds’ pursuit of Benson could be impacted by Tottenham

Since helping them to promotion in 2022/23, Benson has barely had a kick at Turf Moor and that was the same story in their 4-1 win at Luton Town on Monday.

Benson will be desperate to go somewhere he can play regularly but after selling Wilson Odobert to Tottenham on Friday, Burnley may now actually look to keep him.

Odobert was one of the wingers in front of Benson in the pecking order but with him gone, there is more chance of Benson being handed some minutes, particularly given he was ‘electric‘ at this level last time.

If Leeds are to firm up their interest, it may come down to Benson making it clear behind-the-scenes that he wants a move, in order to get a deal done.
