As things stand, new wingers at Leeds United are not a priority. When it comes to the current squad, Leeds are well-stocked with Premier League quality on the flanks.
What Leeds do need includes a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a replacement for Junior Firpo, a midfielder or two, a better version of Brenden Aaronson and definitely, a proven centre-forward able to score goals.
But out wide, Leeds currently have Dan James, Willy Gnonto and Manor Solomon – the trio all have top-flight experience and have starred in the Premier League. Largie Ramazani is showing plenty of promise.
But that could all change. James’ contract ends in 2026, Gnonto is constantly linked with moves, Solomon is only on loan and Ramazani is a target for Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna. A winger could be needed.
West Brom confirm they have released Leeds United target
In terms of making Solomon a permanent signing, there have been conflicting reports. Solomon is keen to stay at Leeds, but reports from Israel say Leeds and Spurs are struggling to align in talks over a deal.
One player Leeds could turn to this summer is Grady Diangana. Reports in April said that Diangana was waiting on Leeds to make a decision before deciding if he wanted to move to The MLS this summer.
Well, that decision may have just become somewhat easier for Leeds after West Brom published their retained list. It confirms that Diangana will now be a free agent, leaving West Brom when his deal ends in June.
Leeds have outgrown Grady Diangana, they can do better
Described as “magnificent” by Lee Hendrie, there is certainly a talented player in Diangana. He first broke through at West Ham before leaving for West Brom in an £18m deal, to the fury of captain Mark Noble.
Diangana had huge promise but has failed to live up to expectation. The winger’s fall has coincided with that of The Baggies, who ended the Championship season in ninth place – four points off the play-offs.
There is no doubt that on a free, he might be a solid signing in terms of cover – if he is happy to play back-up to the likes of James and Solomon [if he signs]. But Leeds can do a lot better than Diangana.
