Big-hitters join Leeds United in race to sign No.10 with ‘enormous creativity’

Europe is continuing to produce some of the greatest young players in world football. And many of them are being snapped up by teams in the Championship, like Leeds United, who in turn are making some of these players into really valuable assets.

Leeds United have their eye on all markets, it seems, when it comes to signing new players. Daniel Farke’s side also have a bit more money to spend than most in the Championship, but nobody is yet to sign in this January transfer window.

Farke did say that Leeds would be quiet in January, but given the amount of names being linked, it’s surprising not have not seen at least one player make the move to Elland Road so far.

Right now, the Whites appear to be linked mostly with names playing out in Europe. Leeds look as though they’re trying to pick up bargain deals for players who are maybe not in favour at their current club, whilst also spotting young talents breaking through.

One who certainly fits into the latter category is Alvyn Sanches who plays for Swiss side Lausanne-Sport.

Alvyn Sanches makes mind up on January move amid Leeds United interest

Sanches, 21, has scored six goals and assisted three more in 18 league appearances for Lausanne so far this season. Journalist Ben Jacobs recently confirmed Leeds United’s interest in signing Sanches, who the Whites like because he can play across the front-line.

The latest on the Swiss U21s star is that he now wants to stay with Lausanne until the summer, mount a push for the Swiss Super League and earn his first cap for the senior national side, per Swiss outlet Corner Magazine.

They add that the £7.5m-rated Sanches now has interest from Portuguese giants Porto, Benfica, and Sporting, as well as Ajax, with ‘already known contenders’ for his signature being Rennes, Nice, Club Brugges, Bologna, and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Swiss U2s boss Sascha Stauch previously described Sanches as a player with ‘enormous creativity’.

Leeds may certainly be worried to know that they’re now joined by some of Europe’s biggest teams in the race to sign Sanches in 2025. But it’s unsurprising at the same time with Sanches really turning heads in his native Switzerland.

Lausanne manager Ludovic Magnin has discussed interest in Sanches. He labelled him as ‘he greatest talent in Swiss football’ right now, before reiterating the fact that he wants to stay until the summer.

Magnin said: “He player has clearly communicated that he wants to stay with us until the summer. I think he wants to finish the great journey we’re on with us, and then leave in the summer. That’s the plan. But I can hardly remember the last time a plan worked out in football!”

Unfortunately for Leeds, Sanches staying with Lausanne for the time being will only allow other teams to take notice and potentially prepare an offer. And if he continues to prove prolific then his £7.5million price tag is only going to increase.
