Arsenal and Manchester City now want ‘brilliant’ player Leeds United considered in the summer

Rewind to the start of June, and Leeds United were yet to confirm any of their 10 summer signings, with Lukas Nmecha the first to arrive on June 15.

Leeds needed a goalkeeper, centre-back competition, replacements for Junior Firpo and Manor Solomon, midfielders after waving goodbye to Joe Rothwell and Josuha Guilavogui, and more firepower up front.

Adam Underwood and the Leeds transfer team eventually got the job done, even if they failed to sign both Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson in the final days of the window. A solid window on the whole.

Especially, going into the window, Leeds fans were only expecting the club to make five or six additions. Gabriel Gudmundsson was the man to come in at left-back, but he wasn’t the only left-back considered.

Arsenal and Man City now want left-back eyed by Leeds

Gudmundsson has sparkled for Leeds so far, despite his own goal at Fulham. The Sweden star, signed from Lille for £10m, is looking more and more like a bargain with every Premier League performance.

But before Leeds had made any signings, LeedsUnited.News understands that Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown was considered as a replacement for Firpo. It comes after having a hand in 10 goals last season.

Brown signed a new deal at the start of the year until 2030 to ward off suitors and yet, Leeds had taken a look at the 14-time Germany U21 star, labelled “brilliant” by Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmoller.

A few months on, and Leeds’ interest in Brown makes sense. That is because Caught Offside report that Arsenal and Man City want to sign Brown, while Newcastle, Aston Villa and Man United are also keen.

Nathaniel Brown v Gabriel Gudmundsson, the right choice?

It is unclear how much Frankfurt would want for Brown, but having tied down the future Germany star to a new deal until 2030, the chances are that the German club would want a massive fee for the defender.

Especially, with the Premier League elite chasing his signature. Instead, Leeds paid a measly £10m for one of the most in-form left-backs in the entire division. Anton Stach has been impressed with Gudmundsson.

Of course, Brown has a higher ceiling than Gudmundsson and could well become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League if he moves to England. But Leeds got value for money in Gudmundsson.
