Leeds United are likely to be in the market for a new central defender between now and the end of the season, with Ethan Ampadu forced to play alongside Joe Rodon once again.
Pascal Struijk has been ruled out for at least three weeks and with further scans taking place this week, it is possible that the left-footed ace could face a long-term spell out injured that rules him out for months.
With Max Wober’s knee problems still proving to be an issue, Ampadu dropped into defence alongside Rodon. He helped Leeds keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, to go top of the table.
But in tougher games and especially away from home, Ampadu’s steel in the middle of the park will go amiss. Leeds need a centre-back to provide cover for Struijk and Rennes’ Christopher Wooh is a target.
Christopher Wooh opens door to potential Rennes exit
The 23-year-old has re-entered the starting line-up with Rennes, with Jorge Sampaoli including him in the last three games. However, Rennes have lost all three games to Troyes, Marseille and Brest with Wooh.
Leeds have made an enquiry to sign £6m-rated Wooh, who has 16 Cameroon caps to his name. Speaking to Ouest France, Wooh was asked about his future and opened the door to a potential move this month.
“Desires to leave? Supposed desires. I have never mentioned this desire. January is quite complex with transfers, I stay focused, I try to control what I can,” Wooh said, keeping his cards close to his chest.
“Work every day to perform and put doubt in the coach’s head. I want to stay, in any case I don’t want to leave the team in this difficult situation, give the maximum I have, and we’ll see what the future holds.”

A bargain at £6m and a player with top-tier experience alongside Glen Kamara at Rennes, with caps for his country. Wooh has entered the last 18 months of his contract and that hands Leeds a chance.
Leeds are not at the top of the list for Wooh. German side Stuttgart are on pole to sign Wooh, given their current position in the Champions League and their track record with maximising potential.
Wooh has a decision to make, especially having won his place back in Rennes’ side. But the chance of regular game time at Leeds might just tempt the Cameroonian in a move to Yorkshire this month.
