Daniel Farke says Leeds United have great ‘togetherness’ after Sheffield United player’s bizarre comments

Leeds United leapfrogged Sheffield United into first place in the Championship table on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road and Daniel Farke spoke after the match.

With Sunderland and Burnley playing out a 0-0 draw despite Sunderland’s two late penalties that were both saved by James Trafford, Chris Wilder’s Blades went into first with a 2-0 win over Norwich City.

But Leeds responded by beating Sheffield United’s rivals Wednesday. Manor Solomon got an early goal before Largie Ramazani came off the bench to notch a goal of his own, and then an assist in injury time.

Ao Tanaka flicked Ramazani’s effort at goal into the back of the net and Leeds secured a 16th league win of the season, and a 17th clean sheet to go top. Daniel Farke spoke about “togetherness” after the game.

Daniel Farke comments come after Harrison Burrows claim

After The Blades’ 2-0 win over Norwich, Harrison Burrows bizarrely said Sheffield United’s “togetherness” is better than any of their three promotions rivals in Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley. Burrows got a brace.

A bit out of the blue and somewhat bizarre, given Burrows will have no idea what the togetherness is like at Leeds, Sunderland or Burnley behind the scenes. Yet publicly, Burrows called the trio of clubs out.

Using the exact same word, Farke spoke in his post-match press conference about Leeds “togetherness” and said that it is “great” at Leeds with the squad open to his rotational policy in pursuit of promotion.

He said: “You always need the whole group to be ambitious. I expect my players to perform. You need the whole bench. We are a happy with our group. There is great togetherness. We have a really good spirit.”

The promotion race – who plays who in next three games?

So, Leeds are in a good spot after the weekend. Only a point ahead of Sheffield United as they were going into the weekend, but three ahead of Burnley and five in front of Sunderland after 27 matches.

But there is a whole lot of football still to be played. A huge 19 Championship matches still to go and the possibility of 57 points to be won with Leeds clocking up a total of 56 so far during the 2024-25 season.

Over the next three games, Sheffield United have a decent run of games where they should pick up maximum points while Leeds take on Burnley away and that will be an incredibly tough clash for Leeds.

If the above happens, then Leeds will find themselves dropping a point behind Wilder’s men. But who knows, anything can happen in the Championship and there is sure to be a few surprises along the way.
