£25m Leeds United man ‘considering his options’ after Daniel Farke and 49ers come to agreement

The end could be nigh for one Leeds United player following promotion to the Premier League. But few fans may be sad to see him go.

Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League is brilliant news for the club, for Daniel Farke and the majority of players. But for some of the club’s players, it could see them moved on, or it could even see them push for moves themselves.

There appears to be a few names up for grabs this summer: it’s reported that Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are free to leave Leeds United in rather unsurprising news, whilst Illan Meslier is expected to leave the club as well.

And depending on who Leeds manage to bring in this summer, we could see some of last season’s more involved names leave the club. One potential candidate could be Brenden Aaronson.

Aaronson actually played in all 46 of Leeds’ Championship games last season, scoring nine and assisting twice. Throughout the campaign, though, Leeds United fans were critical of Aronson’s performances.

Brenden Aaronson considering his Leeds United future after promotion

Recent suggestions revealed how Aaronson could leave Leeds United with Farke linked with a handful of no.10s, including the likes of Emi Buendia, Gustavo Hamer, and James McAtee at Man City. And Leeds United News’ chief transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has now provided some added clarity on the matter.

Bailey tells us that Aaronson faces an uncertain future after Farke and the 49ers agreed that a new no.10 is needed: “Brenden Aaronson’s future is far from certain. Daniel Farke has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that a new no.10 must be a priority for them this summer, and they clearly agree, hence the interest that has already been shown in Emi Buendia and Gustavo Hamer.

“I fully expect Hamer or Buendia to be that player. But with that it does mean that Aaronson will not be a starter in the Premier League. He is aware of the situation and he is considering his options. I am told there is interest in him, mainly on the continent back in Germany.”

Leeds signed Aaronson, now 24, from Red Bull Salzburg in a £24million deal back in 2022.

Who are the other candidates to replace Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United?

It’s no surprise to hear that Aaronson is considering his future. Leeds are bound to sign a new player for his position, if not a couple, which would see the American international become a backup player at most.

As above, the main options to come in and fill the void appear to be Buendia and Hamer, whilst McAtee is a long-term target for Leeds United. Meanwhile there’s two Championship names under consideration in Jack Rudoni and Finn Azaz.

But Coventry City want to keep Rudoni beyond this summer, whilst Crystal Palace are leading the race to sign Azaz, so Leeds’ search for a new no.10 goes on, and should it persist then Aaronson could be kept around simply as cover.

That wouldn’t be ideal for him, and it wouldn’t be ideal if Leeds have to go into the new season with only Aaronson in that position either.
