‘Quality’ Leeds United player could be in for very uncertain summer after relegation battle out on loan

Leeds United are facing another very busy summer transfer window.

Regardless of the division Leeds are in next season, there is likely to be a number of incomings and outgoings, including several who are out of contract.

A number of the first team players who left on loan last summer are set to return to Elland Road, but with Daniel Farke having reportedly decided he doesn’t want them back, work will need doing on moving them on.

Leeds also have a number of players coming towards the end of their deals, including long-serving trio Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling, who are set to leave.

There has seemingly been no decision made on either Sam Byram or Jamie Shackleton, both of whom have struggled with injuries this season. Promotion to the Premier League could actually hamper their chances.

Lewis Bate and Ian Poveda are also among those out on loan who have all but certainly played their last game for Leeds. The former is preparing for the play-offs with MK Dons, while the latter is wanted permanently at Sheffield Wednesday after helping them to the verge of a great escape.

Cody Drameh set for uncertain summer after loan spell from Leeds

It has not all been success stories for those out on loan from Leeds like Bate and Poveda, with others having endured seasons of struggle.

After a good start at Middlesbrough, Sam Greenwood is among them and it is looking more and more unlikely they trigger the £1.5 million option-to-buy agreed last summer.

And one of Greenwood’s former Leeds U21s teammates Cody Drameh could be in for an equally uncertain window based on his year at Birmingham City.

Drameh has played just 20 minutes in the last six matches, missing out from the squad completely in the last three. He’s also not featured as a right-back in two months and Leeds fans will know all too well how he performs out of position after that dreadful day he endured at Ipswich Town in August.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at Elland Road this summer and though Birmingham do have first refusal on offering him a deal, tomorrow could be decisive.

The Blues head into the final day of the season needing to beat Norwich City and hoping results elsewhere go their way to avoid relegation from the Championship.

Given it is only 12 months since he helped Luton Town to the Premier League, with their manager Rob Edwards describing him as ‘quality’, it would be a huge surprise if he was willing to drop into League One. It will be interesting to see what offers he gets.

Drameh has already decided he won’t play for Leeds again

If Leeds were to remain in the Championship, right-back is certainly one of the positions that could require a major overhaul.

As mentioned, Ayling, Byram and Shackleton are all out of contract, while Connor Roberts is expected to return to Burnley at the end of his loan spell.

That would leave Leeds’ squad without a recognised option in that position, and though Archie Gray has filled in regularly there, it would be a failure if he had to do so for another full season.

With that said, Drameh could’ve provided a useful squad option for Leeds in the second tier but he has already reportedly decided he doesn’t want to play for the Whites again.
