Leeds United defender Cody Drameh completed a season-long-loan move to Birmingham City on deadline day.
The 21-year-old became surplus to requirements under Daniel Farke following the signing of Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday morning.
Unfortunately for Drameh, it just never worked out for him at Leeds despite the immense potential he arrived with from Fulham back in 2020.
Drameh was able to show exactly why Leeds bought him three years ago during impressive loan spells at Cardiff City and Luton Town, but could never replicate that in a white shirt, all be it with limited opportunities.
It is now almost certain that Drameh’s last game for Leeds was that nightmare afternoon at Ipswich Town seven days ago, in which he was brought off just 25 minutes after coming on.
Why Birmingham have option-to-buy for Drameh
Drameh is out of contract at Elland Road next summer and will not be signing a new deal, which would make him a free agent once his loan at Birmingham is completed.
However, as reported by various journalists, Birmingham have an option-to-buy for the defender, which is a little confusing considering he will be a free agent next summer.
However, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post, Birmingham will cover his full salary, pay a loan fee and have a permanent option so they can ‘get ahead’ of other clubs potentially looking to sign him on a free.
On the other hand, if Birmingham were to opt against triggering the option-to-buy, Leeds would be due a compensation package from whoever buys him due to his age.
It is unlikely to be anywhere near to what his market value would’ve been had they sold him earlier in the window, but it is better than nothing.
