Patrick Bamford will be buzzing after hearing what Daniel Farke has just agreed at Leeds United

Patrick Bamford has proved to be quite a divisive striker for Leeds United over the years. But if he left this summer then he’d go down as a fan favourite for sure.

Patrick Bamford seems to be at a bit of a crossroads with Leeds United. The one-cap former England man didn’t start a single league game last season, nor did he score a league goal either, playing 17 times off the bench.

The 31-year-old was injured for much of the season but remains an experienced, and proven player at Elland Road. Following promotion though, it was suggested that Bamford could be sold by Leeds United this summer.

Daniel Farke has big plans to overhaul the playing squad this summer and the 49ers are arming the German with a £150million transfer budget at Leeds United, meaning we could see some real high-quality names arriving this summer.

And there are several strikers linked with Leeds United so far this summer, including the likes of Josh Sargent, Beto, Jamie Vardy and Callum Wilson, whilst reports state that Brighton could finally sell Evan Ferguson who is a target for the Whites too.

Mateo Joseph could now leave Leeds United this summer

But before any new strikers arrive in West Yorkshire, one could leave; and it’s not Bamford, but Mateo Joseph. It’s understood that Leeds United have agreed a sale of Joseph worth £8.5million, with the Spanish U21s man keen to make the move to Real Betis. Junior Firpo has just signed a deal with Real Betis too, and he’ll join as a free agent.

Joseph is thought to have become unsettled at Elland Road after a lack of game time last season. The 21-year-old even aimed a sly dig at Farke in a recent interview. Joseph rued his lack of game time at Leeds United and said: “I started playing quite a bit and then went from everything to nothing.

“It was a blow, and that’s coming off the back of last year, which was also very tough. It’s important to invest in yourself to get the best out of yourself, and I try to rely on all the tools available to us.”

Mateo Joseph exit surely means Leeds United keep Patrick Bamford

Strikers are desperately light for Leeds United. Joel Piroe looks like the man who’ll lead the line next season – which could worry fans in itself – with Bamford and then Joseph being Farke’s only two options after that.

Joseph leaving then would leave Farke with the absolute minimum up front, and it’d surely see Bamford kept around for the 2025/26 season, ahead of his contract expiring in the summer of 2026.

But it’s not exactly a bad thing: Bamford shone for Leeds United in the Premier League scoring 17 goals in the 2020/21 season alone. But that was a while ago and Bamford doesn’t go into the new season with any real form. He’s also had injury issues in the last 12 months.

Anyhow, Bamford believes he’s better-suited to the Premier League and he may well prove so next season. But with Joseph nearing an exit, expect Bamford to be going nowhere anytime soon.
