Nick Hammond in £3.8m Leeds United blunder that looks incredibly costly

Leeds United rubber-stamped the permanent sales of eight players last summer and those players have since endured or enjoyed contrasting fortunes at their new clubs.

Archie Gray will be delighted with his game time at Tottenham, but Spurs’ form has been woeful largely due to their injury list. Crysencio Summerville is struggling at West Ham with the winger currently injured.

Georginio Rutter scored his seventh goal of the season on the weekend, as Brighton secured victory over Chelsea in The FA Cup. Glen Kamara’s Rennes nightmare is over, moving to Saudi Pro League’s Al Shabab.

Kamara enjoyed a 5-1 win for Al Shabab on debut. Marc Roca has lost his place in Real Betis’ starting line-up but Diego Llorente has impressed, while Kris Klaesson has added three clubs to his CV since leaving.

Charlie Cresswell form has been superb for French side Toulouse

After a tricky initial period in which Cresswell was used on the right of a back three, he struggled and had to wait for his chance again after leaving Leeds for a bargain fee of £3.8m to join Ligue 1 side Toulouse.

The Thorp Arch product though, has come back in and is one of the first names on the team sheet in the middle of Toulouse’s defence. He scored in the cup recently and on Sunday, netted his first league goal.

Clocking up 22 Ligue 1 outings, Cresswell has helped Toulouse keep eight clean sheets and win seven times. Renowned for his prowess in the air, Cresswell is becoming a household name in French football.

Max Wober injury leaves Leeds light in central defence again

The lack of signings in the January window has been criticised. But perhaps, the issue stems from the decision to let Cresswell leave last summer, even if Farke called out Cresswell publicly for his attitude.

Cresswell was a top talent, captaining Leeds at every stage through the youth set-up and making his first-team debut under Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League. What Leeds would give to have him back, now.

Especially, given his form for Toulouse this season. Perhaps, Nick Hammond and the Leeds recruitment team made a mistake in letting him go but even more so, Farke for making an exit inevitable last term.

Max Wober has picked up an injury, requiring more surgery. Leeds now lack cover in the middle of the defence for Joe Rodon and a recently-returned Pascal Struijk – making Cresswell’s sale a mistake.
