Lucas Perri remains a divisive subject among Leeds United fans after his error proved costly in the draw against Manchester United.

The Leeds number one had a mixed afternoon in the 1-1 draw against the Red Devils, as he produced an impressive first-half save from Leny Yoro.

However, Perri’s distribution was typically erratic, and Daniel Farke criticised him after the game for his role in Man United’s equaliser.

Former Leeds keeper Paul Robinson echoed this criticism after the game, and the Leeds fans remain split over the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Who should start in goal for Leeds United?

Posting on TalkingPoints on Leeds United News, the new platform where fans can interact and discuss a range of topics within an article, fans shared their mixed views on Perri.

Responding to the question of whether Perri is to blame for Man United’s goal at Elland Road, one fan stated that they would rather see Alex Cairns in the team than the Brazilian, as they wrote: “Think I’d rather see Alex Cairns at this point.

“Perri just doesn’t give me any confidence, sadly – not just on the goal, his decision making is questionable and his sliced clearances…”

Another fan agreed with this verdict, calling for Illan Meslier to be given another chance, as they argued: “Yes, he certainly was. He’s made a few mistakes since being at Leeds.

“His distribution is questionable, too. I also think DF was too quick in condemning Illan Meslier; he should have been given a second chance. The money we paid for Perri was too much, and maybe I’m biased.”

However, one fan disagreed with this assessment, as they called for Perri to be given more time: “Meslier is a liability. Perri is new to the league; give him a chance. He also knows how to catch a ball and keep hold when needed.”

Another fan said the full spectrum of Perri’s game was on display in the draw, as they stated: “All aspects of Perri were on show today. Great reflexes, erratic positioning and distribution.”

Lucas Perri needs to show he can be consistent for Leeds United

With the jury still out on Perri’s place in the Leeds side, the Brazilian needs to show that he is capable of maintaining a high level of consistency for the club.

Farke confirmed that Perri will play against Newcastle, which is the right decision in the short term, as the Leeds boss cannot afford to jettison his big-money summer signing.

Perri has shown that he is capable of producing outstanding displays, having impressed in the loss against Manchester City and the draw with Liverpool.

However, having kept just three clean sheets in his 15 appearances for the club to date, according to FotMob, the time has come for Perri to show he can consistently keep the best teams at bay. Otherwise, he could be a high-profile error away from losing his place.
