Leeds United’s stance on reigniting their interest in Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has now been revealed as the club looks to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Daniel Farke will be keen to see new arrivals at Elland Road in the coming weeks, as he looks to guide his side away from relegation trouble.

Leeds have been linked with a host of names in recent weeks, with Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi the latest name reportedly on the club’s radar.

Yves Bissouma was suggested as a Leeds target in the summer transfer window, having fallen down the pecking order at Spurs.

Now, the chances of Leeds reprising that interest in the January transfer window have been explained, with the player currently competing for Mali at AFCON.

Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?

Leeds United’s stance on Yves Bissouma move revealed

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, journalist Ben Jacobs explained whether Leeds were likely to pursue Bissouma again in the transfer window.

According to Jacobs, while there is significant interest in the midfielder from the MLS, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Leeds are not currently actively pursuing his signing.

Jacobs said: “There are a few clubs that have made exploratory inquiries. Ali in Saudi Arabia, Fenerbahçe in Turkey as well and Charlotte FC, who are managed by Dean Smith in MLS with the latter.

“I’m told Bissouma is not that interested. Less because he’s got anything against MLS and more because the wage isn’t as competitive as the other two options, because there’s a lot of money at the moment in both Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

“Actually, in the summer, but I’m not aware of anything active now, Leeds United even made an inquiry as well. So there will be options for Yves Bissouma, but he’s at AFCON with Mali.”

Doekhi can be one of Farke’s best signings – do you agree? 🧱

Leeds United do not lack depth in midfield

Although the suspension of influential Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu damaged their hopes against Manchester United, Farke is relatively well-stocked in the centre of midfield.

Sean Longstaff returned to the bench against Manchester United to help ease the pressure in the middle of the pitch, with Brenden Aaronson also impressing as a number eight.

Farke needs battle-hardened players who can immediately improve his Leeds squad in this transfer window, as he looks to steer Leeds to Premier League safety.

The harsh truth is that, having played just two Premier League games since the start of the 2024/25 season, according to FotMob, Bissouma is not the right signing to strengthen the Leeds squad.
