Leeds United and Daniel Farke have had it rough, things are about to get a whole lot easier

Leeds United have had a tricky set of fixtures to begin the campaign, but Daniel Farke’s side already have seven points on the board.

Despite the late defeat to Fulham and the hammering away to Arsenal, Leeds United will feel as though they have taken to life back in the Premier League well thus far.

In fact, Opta have ranked Leeds above some quality sides in Europe this season. That is only likely to rise further with each gameweek Leeds perform well in, or even above expectations in.

Following the 3-1 win at Molineux, Leeds’ survival hopes via Opta have jumped ahead of the game with Bournemouth this weekend. That and Everton looked like being among the winnable games, and Leeds secured maximums in both.

Leeds’ start to 2025/26 could be about to improve, according to Opta

Despite the vital points secured, Opta also believe Bournemouth are favourites against Leeds this weekend. It’s yet another fixture Leeds will be eyeing points from, despite Bournemouth’s lofty league position.

There are tricky fixtures on the horizon for Leeds, and although Saturday isn’t simple, it is also not Leeds’ worst upcoming game. In fact, the below looks favourable on paper.

In fact, Opta claim that Leeds have picked up more than expected. Per their model, which simulates 100s of times, Leeds’ expected points from the opening five games was 5.5 and they have picked up seven instead.

But that could be about to get much better for Leeds, as Opta’s latest post regarding fixture difficulty outlines Leeds’ next period of games is far more favourable.

It’s stated that Leeds have the second best run of games now, with only Wolves facing opponents with a lower ‘average rating’ from Opta’s model. That said, games aren’t as simple as that, nor are they played on paper.

However, Leeds should be expecting to build on their strong start across the upcoming games, especially as so many of them are also home fixtures as well.

Leeds break records with strong start to 2025/26

Leeds’ start alongside Burnley’s and Sunderland’s has set records. They have bucked the recent trend of the newly-promoted clubs of the last two seasons immediately suffering relegation back to the Championship thus far.

Collectively, the 2022/23 promoted clubs managed 66 points as a trio in 2023/24 and a similar story unfolded last season, with 59 points between Leicester City, Southampton, and Ipswich Town in total.

Now, so far, the omens are far better this season for the trio after bettering each of the last 23 years of newly-promoted clubs. The last teams to have a better start to life in the English top flight came back in 2001/02, which was 24 seasons ago.

With the newly-promoted sides on 19 points combined (Leeds seven, Sunderland eight, Burnley four) it’s the most after five games of a 38-game Premier League season since 2001/02 when Bolton Wanderers had 10, Blackburn Rovers five, and Fulham five.
