Leeds United are busy in the summer transfer market, shaping their squad for the challenge of the upcoming Championship campaign.

The Whites once again have hopes of earning promotion, with the Premier League still the ultimate aim for the season after.

Daniel Farke will have a task on his hands, with a squad that is still in flux after failing to return to the top-flight last time out.

Archie Gray has already left Leeds to join Tottenham in a deal worth £40million, signalling a first key loss from staying in the Championship.

Plenty of other stars have been linked with exits, however there is also a job to rebuild the team afterwards.

Joe Rodon has made the return to Elland Road, while Joe Rothwell has joined on a season-long loan from AFC Bournemouth.

The latest transfer links have also seen Leeds linked with a move for Norwich City star Gabriel Sara, which may prompt some excitement.

Gabriel Sara to Leeds United hints at key changes

Sara’s links with Leeds hint at the possible desire to add a new attacking midfielder to the ranks of the squad.

The Norwich star hasn’t been the only potential number ten rumoured with a switch to Elland Road but it does show the possible profile required by Farke.

If the next signing is an attacking midfielder, that could push Georginio Rutter into a new position entirely.

The club-record signing has floated between being a centre-forward and an attacking midfielder throughout the previous campaign.

However, with competition from Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph, it could be a struggle to earn minutes as the main number nine.

That could, as a result, see Rutter switched out onto the right flank as a new option for the wing.

The 22-year-old had featured in that position several times for Hoffenheim and with his ability to cut in with his left foot, it could prove a fruitful move for Farke.

That added to the possibility of Crysencio Summerville or Wilfried Gnonto leaving this summer frees up even more space to make this switch.

What is Georgino Rutter’s best position?

There is still some uncertainty surrounding the best position for Rutter, who has shown his ability to perform well in several roles.

With a desire to drop deep and link play, there have been key attributes that would make the Frenchman an ideal playmaker or centre-forward.

However, as it stands, there are still some questions left over which role would be best for him to develop in.

Perhaps a switch to the right flank could change that, but it remains to be seen which direction Farke will take his squad building into.
