‘Outstanding’ £17m-rated Championship star now a ‘key target’ for Leeds United this summer

Leeds United’s pursuit of new talent has not stopped in the last few weeks with The Whites intent on adding to what is already a well-rounded squad, and a ‘key target’ has now emerged.

This summer, Leeds have added Alex Cairns, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon and Joe Rothwell to a squad that lost eight players from the list of stars to choose from for the play-off final at Wembley back in June.

Connor Roberts, Jaidon Anthony, Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Kris Klaesson, Charlie Cresswell, Liam Cooper and Jamie Shackleton have all gone, with only three new faces signed as Rodon returns to Yorkshire.

But, Leeds have recalled Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober after loans. Pascal Struijk is fit again and youngsters Charlie Crew and James Debayo looks as though they are set to come in to the senior side.

Leeds squad looks balanced but Daniel Farke wants additions

One area of the squad that is lacking depth is attacking midfield. Aaronson may have come back but in both friendlies, he has played on the left flank for Leeds rather than being used in his natural 10 position.

Georginio Rutter of course, is first choice in the 10 role but even the Frenchman is not a 10. Rothwell is expected to play a deeper role, the position that Kamara took up alongside Ilia Gruev or Ethan Ampadu.

TeamTalk say Daniel Farke is keen to resolve that by raiding former side Norwich for Gabriel Sara. A player that has been linked with plenty of clubs this summer, and is rated at a whopping £17m if he is to depart.

Gabriel Sara is the difference between promotion or failure

When Farke was appointed at Leeds, he was keen to point out that promotion might not come in his first season. In his first year at Norwich, it took the German until the second season to get Norwich to the top.

Having reached the play-off final last term and the three relegated sides significantly weaker than the ones that went up, promotion is now expected. The “outstanding” Sara would given Leeds all the tools.

Rated at £17m, Sara lit up the Championship last season. Quite easily Norwich’s best player, he had a hand in 25 goals in 48 games from midfield and now, Farke is keen to lure him to Elland Road this term.
