Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his impressive run of form for Leeds United as he found the net for the sixth consecutive game in the draw against Sunderland.

Although the 49ers have received criticism for their recruitment at times during their tenure with Leeds, one of their summer deals has gone spectacularly right this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is currently in the form of his life at Elland Road, having scored seven goals in his last six games for the club.

Eyebrows were raised when Daniel Farke added the former England international to his squad, given Calvert-Lewin’s difficult run, which saw him lose both form and fitness in his final years with Everton.

However, Thomas Tuchel is now understood to be monitoring the striker ahead of the World Cup, as he looks to fire Leeds away from relegation danger.

Calvert-Lewin became the first Leeds player in 65 years to score in six consecutive games with his goal against the Black Cats. The stats show one key improvement has fuelled this run of goals, as he ticked off another impressive landmark in the process.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the most prolific goalscorer in Europe

According to a post from Opta’s Jonny Cooper on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), Calvert-Lewin set another impressive mark with his goal against Sunderland.

With six goals from eight shots on target in the month of December, Calvert-Lewin has scored more goals than any other player across Europe’s top 10 leagues in the month.

When added to his other two goals this season, Calvert-Lewin’s overall tally of eight goals means he is the leading English goalscorer in the Premier League this season, with a goal ratio of one goal every 140 minutes played.

In doing so, Calvert-Lewin has not only thrust himself back into England contention, but also vindicated the faith that Leeds’ transfer decision makers showed in him by bringing him to the club.

Key improvement behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s dramatic Leeds United improvement

Calvert-Lewin received significant criticism after his first game with Leeds, as he missed several good chances in the embarrassing EFL Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the FBRef stats for the season to date show that Calvert-Lewin has categorically put his struggles in front of goal behind him in recent weeks.

Prior to the beginning of December, Calvert-Lewin had scored just two goals from 20 attempts in the Premier League, giving him an overall conversion rate of just 10%.

Surely Thomas Tuchel has got to give Dominic Calvert-Lewin a chance in March? 🔥

However, that percentage has dramatically increased in December, with the England hopeful scoring six goals from 13 shots on goal, for a conversion rate of 46.15%.

If Leeds’ new hero in the number nine shirt can maintain his current level of performance, he will be a near-certainty to take his place in England’s World Cup squad this summer.
