Patrick Bamford and Leeds United have parted ways after seven years together, and where the striker ends up next could get very interesting.
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Patrick Bamford has left Elland Road, as Leeds United and Bamford have mutually terminated their contract.
Bamford’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2026. It comes after a difficult season for the striker who featured 17 times in the Championship; without scoring and without starting a single game.
Bamford leaves as a modern-day favourite among Leeds fans with 205 total appearances for the club and 60 goals. During his career, Leeds United and Bamford has won promotion from the Championship twice as well as earning a cap for England.

Patrick Bamford could be set for MLS after leaving Leeds United
Given his experience, and given the fact that Bamford is still only 31 years old, there could be a lot of clubs in the Championship who are ready to take a punt on Bamford. But speaking earlier in the summer, the striker may have already given an indication as to what his next move would be.
Back in May, Bamford revealed how he’s open to an MLS move one day in the future, but he wasn’t sure when that would be, Bamford said: “It was something that when I was younger I always wanted to do at some point in my career [play in the MLS], to kind of experience it, experience a new country, the living the lifestyle there and also trying myself in a new league.
“I think once you have a family and a wife it’s got to be run by them and to be fair they gave it the green light, and they said ‘look, we’re going to go with whatever’s for you and whatever challenge you want to take’, so it is something that I would be open to yeah, we just don’t know when yet.”

Simon Jordan’s telling verdict on Patrick Bamford at Leeds United
On the whole, Leeds fans have a lot of love for Bamford. But there have certainly been spells where he’s received a lot of criticism, and it’s often been justified.
Bamford has had some really poor spells in front of goal. The 2023/24 season back in the Championship, he scored just eight times in the league in 33 appearances, during a season where Leeds really needed a hero.
Speaking earlier in the summer, Simon Jordan gave a brutal verdict on Bamford‘s time at Elland Road, saying: “For most of his career, he has not scored the goals the position he occupies should dictate. What is the problem with telling the truth?
“In this instance, it is clear the player is not fit for purpose. But it doesn’t mean he is not fit for purpose somewhere else.”

Like Jordan says at the end though, Bamford could move to a new club and become a really prolific striker once again. Whether that be in the Championship or abroad, Bamford still has time to prove that he can be a quality striker.
