Former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been compared to several legends of the game after continuing his goalscoring run with Sheffield United.

Patrick Bamford was a firm favourite at Leeds until his release in the summer, having been a crucial part of the side that won promotion under Marcelo Bielsa.

Following his release, Bamford joined Sheffield United on an initial short-term deal, as he looked to rebuild his career after spending several months without a club after leaving Leeds.

Bamford is currently in prolific form for the Blades, having scored three goals in his first seven appearances for the club.

However, he has now been compared to Dennis Bergkamp after scoring a remarkable goal, as part of a brace in Sheffield United’s game against Wrexham.

Which former Leeds player would you have back, if you could pick one? Raphinha surely has to be up there💎

Patrick Bamford praised by fans after incredible Sheffield United goal

Bamford opened the scoring in Sheffield United’s trip to North Wales to face Wrexham, producing a remarkable finish.

The former Leeds man had his back to goal when the ball was played into the box, but he managed to twist his body and send the ball into the top corner with the outside of his foot.

This earned the praise of fans posting on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) as one fan declared: “Omg… Patrick ‘Dennis Bergkamp’ Bamford take a bow son. That was world-class.”

Another fan compared Bamford to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who wrote: “Zlatan Bamford or Patrick Ibrahimovic, whatever works best.”

One fan hailed the ex-Leeds man as “pure quality” in a post that stated: “Patrick Bamford. Take a bow. That’s pure quality.”

Bamford was compared to French legend Olivier Giroud by another fan, who posted: “Patrick Bamford doing that thing again where he turns into prime Giroud in the Championship.”

In one final comparison, Bamford was likened to another former Arsenal legend, as a delighted fan added: “Patrick Bamford moving like 2011/12 Van Persie here.”

Leeds United may regret Patrick Bamford decision

While Bamford’s Leeds exit currently appears to be working out well for both parties, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring for fun at Elland Road, Bamford’s run of goals may be raising a few eyebrows in West Yorkshire.

Bamford has 12 months left on his deal with Leeds when the club released him from the remainder of his deal, after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Daniel Farke.

Who do you want Leeds to sign in January? A striker surely has to be the priority!

However, with Lukas Nmecha injured and Joel Piroe struggling to force his way into the Leeds team, Farke is short on options in attack.

All it would take is for Calvert-Lewin to pick up an injury, and suddenly Leeds would be in trouble. With Bamford scoring for fun just down the M1, Leeds may wish they had a player with his experience and eye for goal in the squad before the season is over.
