On Friday afternoon, Leeds United confirmed the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was released by Everton at the end of last season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin went pretty much the entirety of pre-season without a club. Along the way, there were a number of clubs linked, with several teams in the Premier League showing an interest in the 28-year-old former England man. But in the end, it was Leeds United who pulled off the deal.
Reports recently revealed how Leeds United had agreed a deal to sign Calvert-Lewin, before Daniel Farke then confirmed in his Friday press conference that the striker is set to arrive at Thorp Arch. Leeds soon after confirmed the news.
Leeds United fans have mixed feelings about Calvert-Lewin arriving, his patchy injury record, but mainly his sky-high wages.

David Moyes hint on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s wage demands as Leeds United move confirmed
Leeds United host Everton on Monday in their opening Premier League fixture of the season. The Toffees travel to Elland Road with both teams boasting new-look sides after a summer of big spending. Leeds though are signing Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, but the 49ers look set to pay big in terms of wages for Calvert-Lewin, who was previously a high earner at Goodison Park for a long time.
Speaking in his press conference on Friday, Everton boss David Moyes was asked about Calvert-Lewin and Moyes revealed that Everton simply couldn’t afford the financials around keeping Calvert-Lewin, and that Everton chose to move on from renewing his stay. It suggests that Leeds United may well be paying big money to sign the striker.
Moyes said: “I’m pleased for Dom. We just found the financials too much at the time and chose to move on. It might’ve been the right time for Dom as well and I’m really pleased he’s got himself sorted out going to Leeds.”

How much Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be earning at Leeds United
Everton have paid out the nose for some players over the last few years. It’s been widely reported how poorly the Toffees have handled their financials in recent times, and Calvert-Lewin was one who arguably benefited from that.
Per Salary Sport, Calvert-Lewin earned £120,000 every week in his last Everton contract, or a yearly salary of £6.24million. Then this summer, it was reported that Calvert-Lewin wanted a wage of £150,000 every week from his next club.
But it was also said that Leeds walked away from talks with Calvert-Lewin because of those wage demands, so how much Calvert-Lewin is actually earning at Leeds remains to be seen.
It’s highly unlikely that Leeds will match his previous Everton salary, and it’s unlikely that Calvert-Lewin can realistically expect a similar wage, given his patchy record over the last few years.
Whether or not we eventually find out Calvert-Lewin’s Leeds salary remains to be seen, many fans might not want to know.
