Leeds United are closing in on completing the shock free transfer of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the bombshell news has divided the fanbase.
The new Premier League season is just a few days away and Daniel Farke still hasn’t got the attacking reinforcements he asked for at Leeds United.
However, some progress is being made on that front as it has emerged on Wednesday that Leeds have reached an agreement to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
David Ornstein reports that Calvert-Lewin is due to complete his medical at Thorp Arch to sign for Leeds on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old was released by Everton earlier this summer and Leeds have now pounced to make him their eighth signing of the transfer window.
However, fans are split on the signing. Some have said getting a player of Calvert-Lewin’s quality for nothing is positive, while others are worried about his injury record and lack of consistency.
Others think it could be a shrewd move on two conditions.

Leeds United fans have two hopes with Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing
Many have questioned the signing of Calvert-Lewin, with a lot of fans fuming at the seeming lack of ambition, given Leeds have gone from links with Rodrigo Muniz and Artem Dovbyk to the former Toffee.
Yet, others believe that Calvert-Lewin could be worth a go on a free transfer, even if his wages are likely to be high.
Many fans added that the signing will only be a success if he can stay fit enough to play regularly and if another striker is still signed before deadline day.
@lufcThommo posted on X, formerly Twitter: “I’m looking at this as Mateo Joseph’s replacement and it’s a huge upgrade! We will still get one more.”
“As a free he’s a decent squad player. I still expect us to buy someone. But to be quite honest, I’d rather we just kept Bamford for the final season of his contract,” @DarraghC81 added.
@tedbbb2 posted: “Good signing just his injury record is awful, keep him fit he’ll score some goals. Still a bit underwhelming compared to other strikers we were linked with.”
Finally, @MrTomClayton wrote: “A positive way to look at this… You’re getting a striker on a free who will be desperate to get in the England squad next summer, might be his last chance.
“Has proven he can score in the PL, fits into what Farke wants to do. Still need to be convinced but could be worse.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury record ahead of Leeds United switch
The biggest concern for Leeds is that Calvert-Lewin has had terrible luck with injuries in recent years, something they know all too well with Patrick Bamford.
Farke has already told Bamford he isn’t in his plans for next season, with some fans wondering why not stick with him instead of signing Calvert-Lewin.
In addition, fellow free agent signing Lukas Nmecha has also had his fitness issues.
Calvert-Lewin’s recent record really does not make for pretty reading, though. He missed 15 games with hamstring and ankle issues last season, playing just 1,613 minutes and scoring only three goals.
In total, Calvert-Lewin has missed 103 games through injury during his time at Everton. If he’s going to have any impact, Leeds must keep him fit.
