Although now a Premier League team, Leeds United could still face some real uphill battles in the summer transfer market.
Now back in the promised land, there’s a lot to look forward to for Leeds United. Daniel Farke and the 49ers are now looking to cement the club’s place in the Premier League and a big summer transfer window is needed.
Leeds will no doubt target a new quality of players. But with that comes a new quality of competition and already we’ve seen the Whites hit some stumbling blocks in the transfer market since the end of the season.
Reported Leeds United transfer target Bright Osayi-Samuel has agreed a deal with Crystal Palace, at least according to reports, and now another one of their rumoured targets is said to be in talks with clubs ‘bigger than’ Leeds United.
Tomas Soucek is a target for Leeds United amid rumours that he’s leaving West Ham this summer, with the Hammers wanting a £20million fee for the Czech midfielder.

Leeds United transfer target Tomas Soucek will ‘have his pick of clubs’
Soucek has been a key performer for West Ham since arriving from Slavia Prague in 2020. The towering 30-year-old has scored nine in 33 Premier League games this season, with 41 in 243 total games for the Hammers.
Leeds United are linked with several midfielders right now. But Soucek is someone who’s linked with several clubs and transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that the Hammers favourite has five teams in talks to sign him. And some of those teams are ‘bigger than’ Leeds United and likely better placed to sign him.
Speaking to Hammers News, Bailey explained: “It’s more than Leeds and Everton now – up to five teams in talks – and it’s potentially bigger than them (Leeds and Everton) too,” Bailey went on to add: “I am told he will be staying in England when he does leave and he is going to have his pick of clubs.”

Daniel Farke faces fresh problem in the transfer market with Leeds United
As a team in the Football League, Leeds United were the best. They had something of a monopoly over players wanted by teams in the Football League. But now a Premier League side, they’re competing with teams much more established than them in the top flight.
Speaking recently, Jamie Carragher gave his verdict on promoted teams and revealed how the likes of Leeds would find it hard to sign new players, as promoted teams often go on to struggle and are often relegated after one or two years.
For Leeds United then, signing someone like Soucek could prove impossible as we now know that there’s more established Premier League teams looking at a potential deal, which could prove a much more reliable option for Soucek than signing for Leeds who could go on to struggle.
Whether this summer proves a frustrating one for Leeds remains to be seen.
