Daniel Farke has got to take £5m man out of the firing line now after difficult Leeds United start

Daniel Farke may have to admit that he got his selection wrong on Saturday. With such a strong bench, there were many other ways he could have picked his Leeds United side.

Then, in the game, Farke’s substitutions did not work. In fact, it went the other way even if he was forced into taking Ethan Ampadu and then Joe Rodon off on 67 minutes and 85 minutes in the second half.

Joe Rothwell is a technical player, but playing him alongside Ilia Gruev removes a significant degree of physical presence. Joel Piroe as a no.10 continues to be questionable and others struggled from the off.

Notably, Jayden Bogle had another poor outing in a Leeds shirt. Since his £5m arrival at Leeds, the right-back has really struggled to replicate the form that tempted Leeds into bringing him to Elland Road.

Jayden Bogle struggling to show why Leeds signed him

There has been criticism and rightly so. Bogle was the man that conceded the penalty in the 3-3 draw against Portsmouth, a rash yellow at West Brom and then being beaten regularly at Sheffield Wednesday.

Andy Hinchcliffe actually said Bogle was “all over the place” at Hillsborough. Then, after the win over Hull City, Bogle was criticised by Neil Redfearn who described him as “hit and miss” with and without the ball.

On Saturday, Bogle took his time in engaging Luca Koleosho and it allowed the Burnley teen to score. Tony Dorigo was not impressed with the time it took Bogle to come across, as a former full-back himself.

Farke has got to take Bogle out of the firing line after criticism

It is not as if Bogle is the only option at right-back. Sam Byram came on on Saturday albeit on the left, while new signing Isaac Schmidt needs to get a run of games at some point and now, is his opportunity.

Bogle needs to become accustomed to Farke’s style, to Leeds as a club and the spotlight that comes with that and after a hectic start, perhaps a week or two on the bench would do the right-back some good.

With a trip to Cardiff up next, Farke has got to consider taking Bogle out of the spotlight and giving new signing Schmidt or the experienced Byram a run to remind Bogle that he now has competition.
