Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto has addressed his cameo role after creating another goal from the bench in the draw against Brentford.

Willy Gnonto has endured a frustrating season with Leeds after playing a key role for the club in their promotion from the Championship.

Injury ruled Gnonto out for a prolonged period at the start of Leeds’ Premier League campaign, and he has been restricted to a place on the bench in recent weeks.

Jamie Redknapp praised Gnonto after he provided a second assist in two weeks, having won a penalty after being introduced in the second half against Liverpool.

Now, Gnonto has admitted that it is “not easy” to be forced to wait for his chance with Leeds, after the hard-earned draw against Brentford.

Willy Gnonto admits it is “not easy” being on the periphery at Leeds United

Speaking to LUTV after the game, Gnonto admitted that the competition for a place in the Leeds line-up made it difficult for him to play a regular role at Elland Road.

However, Gnonto was pleased to have made an impact on his last two appearances from the bench, as he stated: “It’s not easy.

“Obviously, the team is playing well. I think we have lots of good players, and I can say the competition is quite high, but at the same time, you know, I have to try and use all my chances.

“I think I did it today. I did against Liverpool, and I just have to keep going like this.”

The Leeds man was also quick to praise Dominic Calvert-Lewin, adding: “I think it’s easier when you play with a striker like Dom.

“You just know that you have to put it in that area, and he’s going to attack it. I thought it was quite a good ball, but he did a lot of the job, and I’m happy for him.”

Jermaine Beckford understands Willy Gnonto’s frustration

Following Gnonto’s honest interview on LUTV, Leeds legend Jermaine Beckford expressed his sympathy for the forward.

However, according to the former Elland Road favourite, Gnonto’s frustration may continue to fuel his impressive performances, which can only be a good thing for Leeds boss Daniel Farke.

Beckford said, “Willy Gnonto gets himself another assist off the bench. And you can see it in his face, and you can hear it in his voice.

“He’s happy on a personal level that his assist stats are going up, but he’s frustrated that he’s not starting the games because that’s, I’ll be honest with you, that’s what I want to see.

“I want to see that frustration because that shows that he cares and that shows that every time he does come on and he does make an appearance, he’s going to give us absolutely everything. That works a treat for me.”
