Over a total of 120 minutes, Leeds United cruised to a 4-1 win over third-tier side SC Verl on Tuesday with goals coming from Willy Gnonto, Lukas Nmecha and a brace from Joel Piroe.
The game saw four of Leeds’ six new signings feature. Anton Stach did not get clearance to play in time while Sebastiaan Bornauw has been ruled out for two weeks. Bornauw left training early on Monday.
In the starting line-up, Daniel Farke included Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Sean Longstaff as well as Harry Gray and Sam Chambers, while Nmecha came off the bench to score a tap-in in the second 60.
It might only be pre-season and it might only be the second match of the summer, but Farke demands the best. A manager known for his meticulousness, attention to detail and for being a perfectionist.

Sean Longstaff and Jack Harrison receive Daniel Farke shouts
Farke is not only trying to build his side’s fitness over in Germany, but the Leeds gaffer is also trying to get the tactics right. A crucial element to the training camp ahead of a fight against relegation next term.
Sean Longstaff is expected to start in midfield – whether that be in a 4-2-3-1 system or in a 4-3-3. The jury is still out over whether Harrison will be in the Leeds side come the welcome of Everton next month.

The Daily Mail say both were on the receiving end of Farke’s bellows from the touchline. Farke wanted Longstaff and Ilia Gruev to get the “distance” right between themselves in the middle of the park.
Solely shouting to Harrison in the first 60-minute period, Farke blasted the 28-year-old for being too slow. He wanted Harrison “to be quicker to get inside” rather than dallying on the ball on the left flank.

Both could have moved to Everton, now they may face them
Harrison has returned to Elland Road after two years on loan with The Toffees. Everton didn’t want to sign the winger permanently and he returns to Leeds where remarkably, he still has three years on his deal.
Of course, Harrison could easily have stayed at Everton had he convinced the higher-ups. Meanwhile, Leeds were not the only side keen on Longstaff with Everton also linked with the midfielder at one point.
There is a world where Leeds could have faced an Everton midfield that included Harrison and Longstaff. Instead, the duo could now play against Harrison’s old side in less than a month’s time at Elland Road.
