This game has so much riding on it as Leeds United and Sunderland face off in what could be a Championship classic.

If the first meeting between the two sides this season was anything to go by then fans will need to strap themselves in.

Sunderland clawed back remarkably to draw 2-2 with Leeds at the Stadium of Light, as an Illan Meslier howler gifted Sunderland a point.

Since then the goalkeeper has improved keeping six clean sheets in a row in the Championship, but Sunderland fans may be targeting another Leeds player instead.

Wilfried Gnonto did something during last meeting’s draw that could still be on the Mackems supporters’ minds.

What Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto did to Sunderland fans

It was a game of such high tension even in October, so imagine what’s at stake on Monday night.

Leeds deserved the three points and had Meslier not made that mistake, there would be a nine-point gap instead of the current seven between the two teams.

Gnonto said Leeds aren’t thinking of promotion, but surely it’s in their heads ahead of this huge fixture, but the Italian might want to focus on facing the angry Sunderland fans instead.

The Leeds winger grabbed two assists in the previous encounter, and the Whites expected the winning goal to be through Junior Firpo in the 56th minute, as Gnonto decided to blow kisses at the Sunderland fans after he played his part.

Gnonto will be hoping to repeat Sunderland masterclass for Leeds

Gnonto has struggled to get into Daniel Farke’s plans recently, as Dan James and Manor Solomon have been impressing.

The Italian can certainly be hit-and-miss for Leeds, but he was certainly a hit at the Stadium of Light last time around.

Farke will have a decision to make despite the 21-year-old’s form, as he should be considered for a start on Monday night.

Gabriel Agbonlahor said a Leeds win is ‘inevitable’, and maybe if Gnonto plays, it will be.
