Leeds United winger Jack Harrison came off the bench for Everton on Wednesday night as The Toffees secured a late draw in the last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park against Liverpool.

David Moyes’ second spell as Everton manager continued to go from strength to strength in what was an incredibly topsy-turvy game at Goodison Park, in front of a raucous Toffees crowd in the midst of battle.

Everton took a shock lead early on, Beto scoring before Mo Salah worked his magic and laid on an assist for Alexis Mac Allister before scoring to put Liverpool 2-1 ahead. But then, James Tarkowski equalised.

A 98th-minute effort a striker would be proud of, leading to a lengthy VAR check. At full-time, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were sent off after Doucoure celebrated in front of the Liverpool supporters.

Harrison started the game as a sub but came off the bench after 25 minutes, replacing Iliman Ndiaye. But it is now a year since Harrison scored a goal for Everton, after his first promising year with The Toffees.

Everton fans discuss Leeds man Harrison after Liverpool draw

It is not the first time that Everton fans have been vocal about 28-year-old Harrison. A recent 0-0 draw against Chelsea prompted Everton fans to question Harrison, urging his Leeds loan to be cancelled.

In January, there were even reports suggesting Everton might cancel Harrison’s loan and he would go back to Leeds. There were also some sources claiming Fulham wanted to take Harrison from Everton.

But he has remained with Everton and played the large part of his side’s draw with Liverpool after coming off the bench. However, Toffees fans were not impressed with Harrison and voiced their frustration on X.

The winger struggled to have much of an impact despite what was an excellent result for Everton. One fan simply posted “Jack Harrison is not it”, another saying “is there a way we can send him back mid-season”.

Harrison has endured a dismal season, after a decent one last season. This term, 0 goals and 0 assists and another Everton fan posted on X: “Really hope McNeil is back soon, I can’t take Harrison for weeks.”

Another supporter said Harrison is “genuinely awful” and that he “loses the ball constantly”. It is probably fair to say that Everton fans do not want Harrison signed permanently at the end of the current season.

Local media discuss Jack Harrison’s performance for Everton

While Everton fans are clearly fed up of Leeds’ £11m signing, local media seem to have been actually impressed with his outing against Liverpool. The Liverpool Echo handed Harrison a rating of 6/10.

Liverpool World went a step further with a rating of 7/10 for on-loan Leeds man Harrison, saying: “Didn’t do too much after coming on in the first half but came alive after the break having a couple of chances.”

Harrison may now get a bit more game time at Everton if Ndiaye’s injury keeps the former Sheffield United man sidelined. But Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Everton are unlikely to sign him.
