Michael Dawson says Leeds United were ‘unfortunate’ not to be awarded a penalty against Rotherham United on Friday.
Leeds were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at the New York Stadium in the first game after the international break, despite having taken an early lead through Crysencio Summerville.
Hakeem Odofin then equalised for the hosts on the stroke of half time and Leeds were unable to get themselves back in front in what was a poor display after the break.
That said, Leeds were on the wrong end of a poor penalty decision in the second half when Lee Peltier’s studs up challenge on Dan James went unpunished.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson believes that had there been VAR, a penalty would’ve been awarded, and Peltier would’ve been sent off.
He said: “Rotherham were fortunate here for Peltier to not give a penalty away on Dan James. That wasn’t the right outcome because we don’t have VAR in the Championship. Had they, it would have been a penalty and a red card for Peltier and Leeds were unfortunate for that decision.”
Leeds right to complain about poor decision
This was a really poor decision from the referee and in truth, James was lucky that he didn’t get his leg broken given how high up on his shin Peltier’s studs were.
Daniel Farke was far from happy with the decision at full-time and in a game where Leeds were far from their best, they could’ve done with that bit of luck.
However, at the same time, it is important Leeds take a look at themselves as to why they did not come away from a game they were in control of with three points.
Some of Leeds’ international players definitely struggled with the short turnaround but ultimately, Farke’s side were too content to play the ball from side to side all night.
Hopefully Leeds come out firing at Elland Road against Swansea City tomorrow night as it is important they return to winning ways.
