Leeds United had Spurs’ Manor Solomon for just one season on loan, with the winger since joining Villarreal on loan in La Liga instead.

Manor Solomon could have re-joined Leeds United this summer, as the links between Solomon and Leeds were persistent throughout the summer, with the final days of the window highlighting that Solomon’s wife wanted a return to Leeds.

In the end, with Solomon having elected to return to Tottenham to attempt to fight for his place in their side under new manager Thomas Frank, developments since have revealed that Spurs were then open to Solomon leaving, be that on loan or permanently.

However, it was also stated that Solomon wanted a Premier League move, having returned to Spurs and realising that he was out of favour under Frank. Leeds were tipped to sign Solomon before the deadline all the way up until the final hours.

Leeds ended up bringing in Noah Okafor permanently and Jack Harrison’s Everton loan expired, with Champions League side Villarreal signing Solomon instead on a loan deal for 2025/26.

The interest in the final days was vast, with Leicester City having a late look at Solomon and it was also reported that Crystal Palace opened Solomon talks around deadline day as well.

In the end, in a period the Israeli described as ‘crazy’ to move to La Liga from London, Solomon ended up taking a strange shirt number for Villarreal and Leeds will not have to face him this season.

It was not Solomon’s first choice to move to Villarreal but it’s an interesting move after securing 23 goal involvements for Leeds last term in the Championship. They finished fifth in La Liga last term.

Prior to Tuesday night, Solomon came off the bench against Osasuna on 67 minutes and notched an assist. Last night was just his second appearance for El Submarino Amarillo against Victor Orta’s former side, Sevilla.

Solomon was introduced six minutes from normal time and he managed another goal contribution in the Spanish top flight, scoring the winner within two minutes of his introduction to the match in a 2-1 victory for Villarreal away in Seville.

Graham Smyth didn’t think Leeds needed Solomon but the 26-year-old winger is already showcasing his talent in one of Europe’s ‘top ‘Big Five’ leagues.

Leeds have quality out wide this season, but no Solomon nor Largie Ramazani from last season’s title win. Have they made a mistake in not having at least one of them? Time will tell.
