Leeds United have been hailed for their ambition in the transfer market. But one rumoured transfer to Elland Road doesn’t look likely at all.

Ahead of the January transfer window, there’s been a staggering 19 players linked with Leeds United as the Whites look set to do some business.

But the club’s business will be planned, methodical, and necessary to what Daniel Farke currently needs in his side.

It’s been mooted that Leeds United will target a new no.10 in the January transfer window, with some player exits looking likely as well.

A handful of names have been linked with moves away including Pascal Struijk who’s wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, as well as the likes of Illan Meslier and Patrick Bamford.

But fans are inevitably more excited about possible arrivals at Elland Road. Leeds appear to have some spending money available after their big summer clearout, and one name who the Whites are thought to be keen on is Abdukodir Khusanov.

Graeme Bailey discusses rumoured Leeds United interest in Abdukodir Khusanov

It was recently claimed that Leeds United have submitted a bid for Abdukodir Khusanov at RC Lens, with the Whites tabling £16.5million for the 20-year-old centre-back from Uzbekistan.

Whether that’s true remains to be seen. But speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey is impressed with Leeds’ ambition in the transfer market nonetheless.

Bailey told us: “Leeds are not looking to sell in January, this is all about promotion now – they have made enquiries about Khusanov, which tells us that they want a defender but also the ambition of the club.

“Khusanov is one of the best young defenders in Europe and both Tottenham and Newcastle want him. I don’t see Leeds getting him but it shows just how serious Leeds are taking January.”

Abdukodir Khusanov is currently open to joining one club

There’s widespread interest in Khusanov who’s viewed as a much cheaper alternative to some of the more well-known centre-backs plying their trade in Europe.

The likes of PSG and even Manchester City have been mentioned alongside Khusanov, as well as Spurs and Newcastle United.

But recent reports claim that the 20-year-old is open to joining Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

There’s been little mention of Leeds, whose reported bid for the centre-back is yet to be confirmed. But like Bailey says, their interest in Khusanov is definite, and it highlights the ambition of the Leeds United owners right now.
