Saturday evening saw Leeds United produce arguably their best performance of the season, having secured a 4-1 win over FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Elland Road.

A fifth league win of the season, which has taken Leeds to an impressive 19 points from 17 games, sitting comfortably in 16th place and, importantly, opening up a gap of six points ahead of West Ham in 18th.

Oliver Glasner was impressed by Leeds, claiming the Whites could have scored seven goals on the night. Certainly, Pascal Struijk will question how he didn’t score, and Brenden Aaronson deserved a penalty.

There were some superb performances. Ethan Ampadu was excellent, Dominic Calvert-Lewin took his tally to six goals in five games, and Aaronson did well after being a surprise inclusion in the starting Leeds XI.

Tony Dorigo heaps praise on summer signing Anton Stach

For Stach, the Germany international is back in form after a tricky period. Stach recently confirmed he was playing with a broken rib and finger and while able to play, the midfielder admitted it affected his form.

But now recovered from those issues, Leeds icon Tony Dorigo has praised £19.9m summer signing Stach for his display against Palace in midfield, which also saw him score his third goal for the Yorkshire side.

“Not only was the free-kick very good, the way that he played was probably one of his best games. He was drifting a little bit, in and out, then he got injured. So that was a difficult period for him,” Dorigo said.

“But he’s coming back and tonight, he was all action. He was everywhere and his performance was capped off by an excellent goal,” the 1991-92 First Division title winner told LUTV on Saturday evening.

Anton Stach is hoping for Dominic Calvert-Lewin-like hype

When Leeds are mentioned in the footballing world at the moment, Calvert-Lewin’s England chances are discussed. Gary Lineker and Wayne Rooney are both in agreement that Ollie Watkins remains above him.

But he is certainly going to be on the radar, something he might never have imagined was possible even when joining Leeds. For Stach, the midfielder finds himself in a similar position, hoping for the same hype.

Stach has two Germany caps but will be desperate to maintain this form and show Julian Nagelsmann that he deserves to be on the plane to the Americas. Boris Becker urged Nagelsmann to look at Stach.

Speaking in October, Stach admitted he was frustrated not to have been called up by Nagelsmann and he was overlooked for November, too. With one international break to go, Stach will be hoping for a call.
