Tony Dorigo says Daniel Farke was angrier than he’s ever seen before after what Leeds did against Cardiff

Leeds United may have beaten Cardiff City 2-0, but it was a victory that has not necessarily pleased everyone.

It was not until Joel Piroe’s 87th minute strike when the three points were sealed, despite the fact Cardiff had been down to 10 men since midway through the first half.

Cardiff were absolutely dreadful, yet Leeds couldn’t finish them off. In fact, despite being 1-0 up, Leeds’ travelling faithful were actually heard booing due to their side’s slow play.

Most teams would be delighted at going away from home at this level and coming away with a 2-0 win, but Farke’s slow style of play is drawing criticism.

It wasn’t only the fans who were left frustrated on Saturday, but Farke too. Farke believes Leeds’ finishing has been an issue all season, with Cardiff a prime example.

Dorigo says Farke was angrier than ever at Leeds vs Cardiff

While Leeds’ finishing drew criticism from Farke post-match, it was during the game he was left really raging.

Cardiff had just three shots all game at the weekend, but one of them came right after Leeds had just gone 2-0 ahead and seemingly wrapped up three points.

However, straight from kick-off, Chris Willock was able to find a gap in the left side of Leeds’ defence, sending Anwar El Ghazi through on goal.

Illan Meslier was able to make the save, but it was a really poor lack of concentration from Leeds. Speaking on the Square Ball Podcast, Tony Dorigo says he had never seen Farke so angry on the touchline after that incident.

He said: “Looking at Daniel Farke certainly at the weekend, he was going crazy on the touchline. I had never seen him go like that, as animated when we were 2-0 up and they went straight through and almost had an opportunity to get one back.

“Those lapses in concentration is what he guards against and maybe that’s quite important to him, and rightly so.”

Leeds have one of Championship’s youngest squads this season

Farke has often spoke about the youthfulness of his Leeds squad. With that in mind, these sort of mistakes probably aren’t a surprise to him.

Only five clubs have a younger average age of players used in the Championship this season, though two of those sides are absolutely flying.

With Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling no longer at Leeds, Farke has lost a wealth of leadership in the dressing room in 2024.

Ethan Ampadu, Pascal Struijk and Meslier are now the new leaders, but are still all young. It is going to be a work in progress to iron out these small lapses of concentration.
