‘Tick all the boxes’… Daniel Farke responds when asked if Leeds United are close to any signings

Daniel Farke has responded on Tuesday afternoon during his pre-Middlesbrough press conference when asked if Leeds United are close to making any new signings this summer.

The Whites have managed just four new arrivals and one of those is the permanent arrival of on-loan star Joe Rodon. Alex Cairns is another, and he has admitted he might not even play given he’s third choice.

Jayden Bogle and Joe Rothwell have also been added, after Leeds sold seven players and let five go on loan. Plenty more have waved goodbye to Elland Road after their contracts expired at the end of June.

Farke has previously made it clear that he would like a left-back, a goalscoring midfielder and a player to replace Crysencio Summerville – or, at least another option in the void left by the pocket-sized winger.

The Whites are seemingly active at the moment. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is set to join Sheffield United on loan after Leeds bid £15m for the winger, while a bid is also on the table for Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Middlesbrough on LUTV, Farke was asked if Leeds are close to any signings. He responded by saying that any new signings must tick all the boxes.

“Totally calm, no panic. We have a really good base to work with, we can’t afford to spend a fortune. We need good quality. We have to be careful because we have a closed group, has to tick all the boxes.

“New signings need to be affordable, have the right personality, attitude. We are working hard behind the scenes, I can’t confirm anything right now but we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”

Leeds do need to get a move on as deadline edges closer

We are beginning to enter the latter stages of the summer window with little over a fortnight until the deadline. Rak-Sakyi has gone to Sheffield United, while Marseille are leading Leeds for Jonathan Rowe.

It means Leeds may have to look further down the list to make a new signing and replace Summerville. Leeds fans have pleaded with the club to sign Jack Clarke, while Morgan Whittaker is rated at just £10m.

It is unclear who Leeds will move for in the next couple of weeks but movement is expected and Farke is relaxed, ahead of what is expected to be a busy couple of weeks at Elland Road and Thorp Arch.
