Victor Orta is on the verge of landing his first job since being sacked by Leeds United.
According to the Athletic, Orta is set to become Sevilla’s new sporting director having already spent seven years at the Spanish side earlier in his career.
The 44-year-old is set to replace the recently departed Monchi at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium after he made the move to Aston Villa last week to link up with Unai Emery.
Aside from a two-year stint at Roma between 2017 and 2019, Monchi had been in the job at Sevilla since 2000, with Orta having worked alongside him earlier in his career.
In comparison to Premier League sides, Sevilla are not notoriously big spenders and have not spent more than £20 million on one player since 2020.
As such, Orta will have to be clever in who he targets this summer, with the former Leeds man already said to have been working on potential targets.
Here are three players he could take with him from Leeds, to the Europa League champions.
Marc Roca
While Real Betis have been made the early favourites for Roca’s signature, their ongoing salary issues could allow another team to swoop in from under their noses.
Sevilla and Girona have too been tenuously linked with the 26-year-old, and Orta just may be able to prise him to his new club instead given how well he knows the player.
Roca was one of the players who sent a farewell message to Orta on Instagram, with the two clearly possessing a good relationship.
The temptation of Champions League football could also tempt Roca into the move.
Rodrigo
Another player likely to move on this summer after relegation is Rodrigo, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Leeds.
Reports from Spain suggest Rodrigo has a £3.5 million release clause in his contract this summer and now he is back in the Spain fold, he will want to ensure he moves to a club which will allow him to continue being called up.
Rodrigo has been linked with both a move back to Spain and the Premier League in recent weeks, but a cut-price deal could see the likes of Sevilla swoop in.
Sevilla will be looking to add more goals to their side next season and after netting 13 league goals last term, Rodrigo could certainly do that.
Jack Harrison
Moving away from the Spanish theme, Harrison could well be someone Orta looks to target having first brought him to Leeds five years ago.
Harrison said to have as many as five teams keen on his signature this summer, with a release clause reportedly set at £16 million, which would not be out Sevilla’s price range.
It is said that on top of four Premier League teams, a club from Europe who can offer him Champions League football are also interested in signing him this summer.
Sevilla would, of course, fit that bill and the link with Orta certainly adds fuel to the fire in that regard.
